How to Make a Hollow Pencil

Aug 28, 2009 05:48 PM

This is a good way to hide small candies like nerds or a pixie stick powder.

You can roll a small piece of paper up and slip it to a friend as a secret note. It would be perfect for use at school since it is disguised as a pencil.

Find a normal, wooden, non-mechanical pencil.

Work the eraser off the end, being careful not to damage the eraser.

Spin the 1/8" drill bit in your fingers in the center of where the eraser used to be to create an indent. This is so the drill bit, when in the drill, doesn't walk off course.

Put the drill bit in the drill and stand it straight up and down.

Turn on the drill and drill down three or four inches, being careful not to go through the outer edge of the pencil.

Remove the drill from the pencil and tap it on a table to get any extra dust out of the hole.

Put the eraser loosely back in the end, and you are done!

Tips

  • Keep the drill as straight as you can so you don't go out of the edge.
  • You can place an eraser cap on the end instead of using the old one to get a little more space.

Warnings

  • Do not hold the pencil while you drill through it in case the drill is crooked and you drill through the edge into your hand.
  • Do not use it to carry anything illegal, like drugs or flash powder.

Things You'll Need

  • A drill
  • A 1/8 inch drill bit
  • A vice
  • A few new pencils in case you make a mistake.
